12 really good tips For More Readers

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

There are lots of ways to get more readers, but here are 12 really good tips, for novice to experienced bloggers.
Turn your articles into videos using PowerPoint to create an entertaining slideshow. Submit your video to all of the popular video sites, including Google Video, YouTube, and others. Video is increasingly popular with internet users, especially teenagers and young adults. What better way to capture their readership by posting a great viral video on YouTube?
Submit to blog carnivals. Blog carnivals can be a fun way to meet other bloggers in your areas of interest. Be careful to stick with topics that fit your blog – the last thing you want is to lose readers by writing about totally unrelated topics or losing your personal touch when it comes to writing in a carnival. Participate in and submit to social web 2.0 sites, including Reddit, Digg, Delicious, Netscape, and Stumble Upon. Digg and StumbleUpon can be extremely helpful in gaining new readers, but don’t submit your own articles! Encourage your visitors to submit your articles if they enjoy them.

Encourage social bookmarking after every post

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

While some in the blogosphere feel that if you really like a post that you will Digg or bookmark it, whether or not there are buttons on the page. However, make it easy for your readers. Remember, everyone is not on the same comfort level with using bookmarklets or browser add-ons to facilitate submitting articles to social bookmarking sites like Digg or StumbleUpon. Find out which plugins for WordPress can help you add social bookmarking to your blog’s template in the next chapter, or visit each bookmarking site and find the code for their submissions buttons and insert manually into your blog template.

Add a large RSS subscription button to your site

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

Large RSS subscription buttons seem to fit in and seem to flow well with the theme of most blogs, but test out various size buttons and even various color RSS buttons on your site to see what works best. No matter what, make it easy for visitors to subscribe to your site by placing an RSS feed link at the bottom of every post. Having an RSS feed link at the footer of each post evens out the appearance of the blog template and gives readers another chance to subscribe to your site’s feed! Remember to balance the urge to scream ―SUBSCRIBE TO MY SITE‖ with making your content stand out. Use a different or smaller font or even change the color of the text or background. In WordPress, open index.php, and look for the code (the_content) – paste the following code directly afterward, and remember that you can tweak the colors using a color picker, the font face and even the wording. Don’t forget to add the link to YOUR RSS feed! Generate extra visits to your blog by setting up a MyBlogLog Widget. A lot my traffic comes from visitors from other blogs who saw my face or avatar on a MyBlogLog Widget and clicked on it. MyBlogLog is operated by Yahoo!, so it is free and if you have a Yahoo! Account already, you can set up a MyBlogLog quickly and easily.

Consistently create unique, quality content.

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

Content is King; or as John Reese says, ―content is King Kong‖. You should spend at least 90% of your blogging time looking for interesting topics to blog about, researching them, writing articles and editing them.
Believe it or not, but the Back to School series was a 2 month long researching and writing adventure! I first plotted my idea, what topics would work with the series, did research on each topic, wrote articles, edited articles, and continued to edit until I was satisfied.Another way to create unique, quality content is to have a weekly series. Currently, I have three weekly series, Geek Girl on Mondays, WordPress Wednesdays, and a guest blogger’s Welcome to Soulville on Thursdays. Having weekly series gives you structure as a blogger. You know what you have to blog about once or twice a week; and your readers can look forward to posts on certain topics on particular days of the week. Daniel Scocco recently said that your best content should be posted on Mondays. This will give your articles a chance to gain traction in the blogosphere. Great point, but do not neglect to post regularly! Posting regularly is more important to most readers than if the articles are posted on Monday or Thursday.

Forum Marketing

Forum marketing is another excellent strategy for building a list of subscribers and sending tons of traffic to your website. Forum marketing is a highly underrated, but extremely effective strategy for building a list of subscribers, driving highly-targeted traffic, and establishing yourself as an authority in your particular market.
Forums put you directly in front of your target market, making it a goldmine for driving thousands of highly targeted visitors to your website. But keep in mind here that the key to successful forum marketing is to become an active participant in the community. Your first priority is to deliver lots of value. And that means posting highly valuable content in the forums and helping people with their questions. Once you’ve become a trusted member and delivered some great value in your posts, people will naturally want to learn more about what you have to offer.

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

Reciprocal linking in simple terms means exchanging links so to enhance link popularity. This often entails sending email letters to certain webmasters of your choice that you find has complementary and relevant content. Write a polite, personalized and good e-mail letter to the “webmaster” that you want to “exchange links” with. Here are some guidelines:
1. Download the Alexa (http://www.alexa.comand) and Google tool bars. Google “tool bar” will permit you to view the “PR” of other websites, so that you are aware which sites have great traffic and link with them. The Alexa “tool bar” supplies you with estimates of the website’s traffic as well as the sites that are being linked to it.
2. Visit particular websites that you want to “exchange links” with in order that you will know what that particular website is all about.
4. Arrange an award for winners to link to your website before they can claim their prizes. Make certain that your policy is clear to everyone.
5. Allot a budget so you can pay for niche directory listing. Present excellent and relevant articles with links directing to your web home page and give your consent to webmasters to display your articles in their sites.

Keyword Selection and SEO

Posted on | November 11, 2009 | No Comments

Everyday, hundreds and millions of Internet users access the network in search of something they need or want. In the earlier days, users had a much easier time locating just exactly what they sought because very few online entities were in existence, and they offered very little services. Thus, it was easy to determine which sites actually contained what they needed. Fast forward to the current period, and instead you find
hundreds and millions of content varying in degree almost to the same extent as to the number of average users of the Internet per day. Businesses, institutions, and even individual users generate their own websites and content by using simple means, and as such, a searcher may end up having to choose from hundreds of choices in pursuit of materials related to what they are searching for. Search engines play a huge role in making the current scenario work. Major search engine service providers, like Google, create user interfaces that allow for their users to enter words, or keywords, relating to what they are searching for. Various methods are then employed in order to search for the content links. Either they employ purely organic searches, which lists matches to the keywords regardless of whether they are paid or not, or they utilize
crawler search engines. Crawler search engines simulate the crawling movement when they travel through the codes of each website and deciphering relationships between links and pages.

A few simple rules to follow while developing your B-Blog are:

a. B-blogs should be updated on a timely and routine basis. Never
should stale information be left lingering on a b-blog.

b. As a blog is informative, its content should be crisp and natural,
and not ordered or planned like that in a newspaper. Also, it should
be easy to access old blogs in an archive.

c. Develop a theme, and form an original writing style. This will make
you a unique blogger, and give you a strong and loyal audience.

d. Clarity and simplicity in a blog is of utmost importance!

e. Use keywords extensively to entice search engine robots. This
includes visibility in search engine listings. Use key words in titles as
well, though titles should not be more than 10 or 12 words long

f. Frequently published blogs will mean search engines will come
back later to index the site.

g. Use your spelling and grammar checkers!

h. Syndicate your blog with RSS service (discussed later) to boost
readership.
